PARENTS AND CARERS
Centre Based and Outreach Work:
The service helps young people look realistically at their substance use and assists them in exploring their needs, identifying issues and prompting appropriate interventions.
Advice and Information:
The service can give advice and information on a wide range of issues including education, harm minimisation and reduction.
Community Support:
The service is able to contact and work with existing community agencies (housing support, community education, centre based and detached projects, Connexions) and any project that already provides a service for young people.
Family Support:
The MATRIX service is able to develop community based family support and access to the dedicated worker for family members and friends where there are substance misuse issues.
Telephone Work:
MATRIX work is CONFIDENTIAL. However, parents/carers often look for anonymity and the phone is a good way of ensuring this. They are offered relevant information or an appointment with the worker to identify needs e.g. drug awareness sessions, information, advice or support. This is also a good way to reach young people with information who do not want to attend the centre.
